On a boat, that physics plays out in ways that are expensive and sometimes irreparable - cracked manifolds, split heat exchangers, ruptured hoses, damaged engine blocks. Most winterization-related insurance claims do not start with a catastrophic storm. They start with a skipped step, misplaced confidence in a well-meaning friend, or a deferred weekend project.
